Both good and bad summer for women-themed films

[1] [2] [3] [4]

[5]Sex and the City $151,778,341
Mama Mia $104,144,505
Traveling Pants 2 $19,620,128
Kit Kittredge: American Girl $16,871,890

This was both a good and bad summer for women-targeted films as they either over-performed or under-performed.   Sex and the City exceeded expectations and landed in the top ten highest grossing films of the year.  Mama Mia broke the coveted $100 million mark and is still going.  Traveling Pants 2 performed poorly, most likely due mostly to the terrible ratings from movie critics.   Kitt Kittredge received positive ratings and  healthy theatre sales but lacked the push to compete in the popular July 4th weekend release to make it a bigger success than it received.
