Oregon writer,

Participation and popularity of the Portland Rose Festival Princess Court has been sliding for several years. Five school this year failed to provide required five candidates. Even worse, Jefferson High School is providing no Rose Court Princess. This makes it the first time in 80 years that one of the founding schools has skipped the opportunity. Only three girls in the school applied but only was one was academically eligible. She was later disqualified after a disciplinary action.

I notice watching on television on the news reporting on the princess competition winners and on how few people are in the audience. Those seats look mostly empty with less than 50 people in the audience. What a sad state of affairs for a long time honored Oregon tradition.

Has the tradition run its course? Or is it princess competitions in general becoming out of style?

I do not know, but is sad to see.
