I do certainly love a heavy finisher’s medal after a marathon; or an age-group ribbon when I actually race at a 5k or 10k (thank you, ORRC, for awarding age group ribbons 5-deep) … but a little “bling” ranks right up there with free Jamba Juice and winning a massage in a raffle.
At the 2011 Happy Girls Half Marathon [8], all finishers will get a beautiful necklace that’s dainty enough to wear on a run and suitable for the post-run socializing. The necklace is made by Silverado Jewelry Gallery in Bend!
The front of the necklace contains the running woman’s silhouette and the race name; the back has the date, a sunburst, and “Bend, OR.” (So you can keep it straight which year was which will come in handy when you’ve run a few Happy Girl Half Marathons!)
The finisher’s medal is only for runners and walkers who complete the half marathon distance, so if you are going to this race with any friends running the 5k, be prepared to fend them off.

The 2011 Happy Girls Half event includes a half marathon and 5k on Sunday, May 29th and offers the Happy Little Girls run (three distances, so your munchkin and your pre-teen can both run) on Saturday, May 28th.

Register: The main registration page is here [10], where you can register online or fill out a printable PDF to mail in. Before April 30th, the half if $90 for the individual race or $45/person for the 2-woman relay. The 5k is $25 through May 27th, at which time the half registration fees change to $100/$50. The Happy Little Girls run is $20.
