Hollywood has spun an interesting tale about wives regarding behind the scenes decision making over Brad Pitt’s latest movie called Moneyball. The movie is based on a true story and has a strong family values message at the end. This makes it all the more peculiar since the movie made a surprise decision about what to do with the main characters ex-wife and second wife and how it relates to the movie.
In the script and in filming both wives are part of the story. The ex-wife gets one scene. The second wife has all of her filmed scenes removed altogether before the final cut. The second wife was no studio extra — she was actress Morris from Cold Case TV series fame.
It could be that early audience testing soured on the second wife or that the director had cold feet and decided that a hero juggling an ex-wife and new wife did not fit a Hollywood film fairy tale. Interestingly, Brad Pitt is filmed with a wedding ring to no explanation.
With Hollywood producing so many dysfunctional and untraditional families it is surprising that they are hiding this one. It makes no sense. Does Hollywood have a bias against second wives? It should not. The strong family message in this film could have embraced the modern blended families. Too bad they didn’t.
