Oregon High School drop-out rate worsens

By Evergreen,

Last April it was reported that Oregon’s high school drop-out rate Is veering downward for most schools and all racial demographics. Then in May the State announced that due to a miscalculation the rate is worse than reported. This was the third miscalculation in the past 17 months. As it stands nearly one out of five students never graduate. This is unacceptable.

Making matters worse is the fact that the Department of Education and other leaders have offered few clear cut reasons for the drop and solutions to fix it. The Department has even blamed the good economy for luring students to work. I am not sure how much I believe that having prosperity and a good education are impossible goals.
