Questions to ask before school starts

By Evergreen,

We are now just days away from the new school year and we often get caught up in the shopping spree and forget to talk to our kids about some important matters such as safety and preparation. Here are some questions to think about; If your child is walking or busing a new route, have you walked a practice walk through the route? Have you discussed what to do if your child encounters a stranger? How about encountering a bully? Have you inquired on whether your child has any back-to-school jitters that need to be identified and addressed?

Finally, every parent needs to make time at the beginning of the school year to talk about academic goals and expectations. This talk needs to happen at the beginning of the year and not after it has started.
