Most of us never look at the details of our cell-phone bills and therefore miss the ever increasing cost of texting. My sister in-law was shocked to find her daughter ran up over $25 in texts alone in a single month. $25!!! How many finger excercises and long nights does it take to rack up a $25 texting bill. “How long has this been going on?!” mom thought.
It is about to get worse. Sprint quietly raised their text costs from 10 cents to 20 cents per text. Sprint raised the ceiling and made it easier for the others, AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon to raise their rates. Now we learn that Sprint has raised their rates again to 20 cents. Many kids and parents have no clue when these rates go up.
Texting is a big part of the 40% rise in profits by cell-phone companies this year.
So expect more price increases increased without your knowledge and expect more advertising pressure on your kids to text more. Do kids need to text more when they do not need to text in the first place?
My suggestion, keep an eye on your bill and make your daughter pay for her texts. You just might save a bundle and teach a good lesson in finances for your kid.
