There’s just one thing you need to know about Amy Roloff. And it isn’t about her TV persona, her size, her farm, dwarfism or her fast-paced family life on TLC’s Little People Big World.
It’s about her heart.
As Amy puts it, “Everyone has value and purpose. We cannot give up hope. All my work revolves around kids and their needs.”
That statement sums up Amy’s heart—her core value for living out each day. “It’s not our job,” she reminds us, “to determine what someone’s value and purpose is. It’s our job to help each young person achieve their own highest potential, whatever it happens to be for that person.”
Now Amy is reaching for her highest potential. She has translated her own personal challenges and media exposure into a golden opportunity to benefit families and special needs youth through her recently founded Amy Roloff Charitable Foundation (ARCF). “I can relate to people going through challenges and I want to make a difference,” she reminds us.
Oregon Women’s Report caught up with Amy as she was completing a KATU AM Northwest segment on healthy, simple and fresh cooking to encourage family meal time. The segment was recorded at this year’s Street of Dreams “Paula Deen Northwest Retreat” home, which will also host the opening night charity–a “Block Party”–to benefit the Amy Roloff Charity Foundation next week, on Thursday, August 4th.
Her new partnership with Street of Dreams marks a maturing point for her new foundation—a coming together of homebuilders and architects to benefit families and special needs youth.
Amy is an advocate—a full-time advocate for kids and families who struggle, plain and simple. From Portland to Haiti, she has logged hundreds of hours and miles delivering needed supplies and smiles to needy kids.
Amy is an athlete. She credits the Dwarf Athletics Association of America for giving her access to sports and chose the DAAA as the first organization supported by ARCF.
Amy is an example. She’s an example to women in Oregon that we are all capable of making a huge difference in the world, one life at a time, no matter what our personal challenge might be.
Come to think of it, we are all little people in a big world. What really matters, Amy shows us, is how big a difference we can make.
Two major upcoming events for the Amy Roloff Charity Foundation are:
• Aug. 4th ~ The Street of Dreams Opening Night Charity
• Sept. 17-18 ~ Amy’s Birthday Party: Golf & Dinner Event at The Reserve
