“You Love Me!”
By Melanie Cope
Beaverton Poet
– Honorable Mention Winner Valentine’s Contest.
You love me when I’m unlovable,
You love me when I am unkind,
You love me when I am selfish and I act as though everything’s mine
You love me when my tongue spews hate
But wait!
You look deeper and see,
that these things,
spring from the old man,
The one that’s still inside,
Yet you lovingly and graciously,
Continue to renew my mind
And you show me how to love
And how to control my tongue,
Which, unlike the horse
Has never been tamed
Yet I call on your name,
Through which all things
I can do,
Because you love me
And I can’t deny that
I love you!
